Camp Details


Dear Camper and Parents,

Camp Alpha 2012 is scheduled for June 17 – 20, at Morris Area Elementary School.  We are happy that you are coming to our camp and will work very hard to make this an enjoyable and learning filled experience. We look forward to seeing those of you from previous camps and can’t wait to meet our new campers. Should you have any special requests or concerns please let us know. Your children are the most important part of your lives and we feel honored to work with them.

Check in:

Check in will begin at 3:00 p.m., June 17, at Morris Area Elementary School.  The school is located at 151 South Columbia Avenue.  We will check into rooms and have a welcome, introductions, schedules, etc. Parents are invited to stay for the welcome, which begins around 3:30.

Housing:

Overnight campers will be housed at Morris Area Elementary and will be under adult supervision at all times. For those of you familiar with our camp, this is something new!  We feel there are several advantages to staying at the school, with number one being – Air Conditioning!  We will have mats available and campers may bring an air mattress with them if desired.

Phones:

Although cell phones are welcome, we ask that campers not use them unless absolutely necessary.

Meals:

Meals will begin with supper on Sunday, and end with lunch on Wednesday. If there are special dietary restrictions, please contact us. Day campers will be provided with all meals EXCEPT for the daily breakfast.

What to Bring:

Everyone:

  1. Clothing for warm or cool weather.
  2. Cloth or heavy gloves that can get dirty/wet.
  3. Remaining fee – if necessary.
  4. Camp Alpha Health / Waive and Release Form
  5. Bug spray and sun screen.
  6. Two items in a small bag that tell something about you.

Overnight campers:

  1. Toiletries / towels / pajamas
  2. Bedding – sleeping bag, pillow
  3. Although not required, (we will have cots and mats) campers may bring an air mattress if desired.

*OPTIONAL ITEMS *

- Snacks (No sunflower seeds)

- Alarm clock

- Swimsuit (no metal zippers on the back of the swimsuit)

Rocket Launch / Awards Program:

There will be a final model rocket launch starting about 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, behind the new elementary school. An awards program will follow this at 3:00 p.m. in the concert hall of the elementary. Parents are invited to attend both events. Please note that weather conditions may play a role in the scheduling or location of the launch. Call 320-589-4394 or 320-333-9571 if you are unsure.  For those of you in Morris, there will also be a launch (weather permitting) on Monday night, about 7:00 pm at the same location.

Behavior:

We expect proper behavior at Camp Alpha! By attending Camp Alpha you agree not to interfere with the learning and enjoyment opportunities of your fellow campers. Campers not exhibiting proper behavior will be removed from the activity.

Check out will begin around 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Morris Area Elementary. (Immediately following the awards ceremony)

Daily Schedule / Overnight Campers:

Our days will be full! Wake up for overnight campers will occur between 7:15 – 7:45 (based on camper request) with breakfast served at 8:00 a.m. Structured activities will take us well into the evenings.

Daily Schedule / Day Campers:

Sunday: 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. (Registration begins at 3:00)

Monday: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. (May be dropped off anytime between 8-9)

Tuesday: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. (May be dropped off anytime between 8-9)

Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Check-out begins at 4:00)

Day campers may be picked up earlier at parent’s request.  Day campers will be provided with lunch, supper, and evening snacks. Campers can be dropped off and picked up at Morris Area Elementary School.

College Scholarship:

Please be aware that by participating in Camp Alpha, you become eligible for the prestigious Klick Scholarship.  Only students graduating from Minnewaska, Sauk Centre, and Long Prairie Schools, along with students attending Camp Alpha, are eligible to apply for this scholarship.  Click here for  Klick Scholarship Information
